Shoulder pads work well. I hung the vest with the pads on a wide hanger in a hot garage overnight, which seemed to help accelerate the break-in process. They do rub a little to start, but seem to break in fairly quickly. Overall, a good addition to the 701 vest.
I don’t understand why the shoulder pads or lumbar support are considered extra or an accessory. There’s no way the vest system would be comfortable in any way, shape or form without them. They should be included with the best systems as a standard feature. Not an extra cost on a $300-$500 item.
